The Challenge
Local Plated had a clear concept: make it easy to order genuinely healthy food from real local restaurants — not chains or meal kit boxes — with transparent nutrition info, local sourcing details, and fast delivery. The challenge was building a three-sided marketplace from scratch: a consumer experience that made healthy eating as frictionless as ordering a pizza, a restaurant-side portal that worked for busy kitchen staff without a tech background, and a delivery logistics layer that kept order accuracy high and delivery times predictable. Off-the-shelf white-label platforms charged prohibitive commissions and offered no control over the brand experience or customer data.
Our Approach
We designed the platform across three interconnected surfaces. The consumer-facing iOS and Android apps featured browsing by meal type, dietary filter (vegan, gluten-free, high-protein, etc.), calorie range, and restaurant, with full nutrition facts and ingredient sourcing on each dish. Cart, checkout, and real-time order tracking were built for minimal friction. The restaurant portal was a web dashboard optimized for tablet use in a kitchen — incoming orders displayed clearly, one-tap status updates, and daily sales reporting. The dispatch layer matched ready orders to available drivers, calculated ETAs dynamically, and gave both customer and restaurant a live map view. We built a verified review system and an admin panel for restaurant onboarding, promotions, and automated Stripe Connect payouts.
